Aggressive sales techniques at chain stores, whats the point?

Selling techniques are getting more aggressive by the day but the real question is why are they legal? And why do we fall for them; well I’ve done some research and what I found was both amazing and shocking.

What prompted me to write this article was my first hand experience of these sinister techniques at Costa Coffee I’m sure anyone that has been in the coffee (Well what passes as coffee) shop has also experienced there threatening style of marketing.

I walked in and waited in the ridiculously large queue. Finally I got to the front and ordered a hot chocolate. As soon as the words “Hot chocolate please” came out of my mouth the waitress replied with “In a large?”
Straight away the very first interaction with a member of staff is used to deploy aggressive sales techniques. Instead of letting you make up your own mind on what size you would like to buy they tell you which size to buy. Your ability to make decisions is given to the employee. Although that depends on whether you fall for there malicious selling strategy, and the sad fact is that most people do.

In December 2012 a survey was conducted that shows Costa Coffee attracts nearly 4 million customers a week bypassing Starbucks as the leading coffee chain! It is quite obvious aggressive techniques are working for them but why? I don’t whether I’m being ridiculous here, but aren’t they easy to spot a mile off? I mean the example I’ve used above is basically a blaring neon sign saying

To be honest it amazes me people don’t realize they are being verbally slapped across the face! Look out for these heartless salesman next time you going to a chain store to refrain from getting a… fish-slap.jpeg
